Axle/Gears: not a one tire fire, thank god!
I need help to help someone.
Another member on the forum, Dalton, has a problem with his car. With a 89 formula 350 chip in the 89 formula 350 computer, the fans kick on at around 230 degrees but with the same computer and his 87 5.0 tpi chip, one fan runs all the time. It is a stock chip but what is the difference? Both cars have dual electric fans and both are auto trans. Why is this?

HI TOPRADMAN HERE, I GOT AN IDEA......SUMMIT HAS A FAN TEMP SWITCH THAT KICKS THE FANS ON MUCH SOONER AT LOWER TEMPS. CHECK IT OUT....

Next, re-read my first post. All we did was swap chips, nothing else, what would a temp switch do for me?

SORRY, NOT SHOUTING, I ALWAYS TYPE IN ALL CAPS.....ANYWAY, AFTER REVIEWING HYPERTECH COMPUTER CHIP INFO, LOOKS LIKE THE CHIPS ARE DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS BETWEEN THE 2 APPLICATIONS. I RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE MY COMPUTER AND INSTALLED A USED COMPUTER OUT OF A V6 FIREBIRD. I SIMPLY REMOVED MY CHIP AND INSTALLED IT IN THE REPLACEMENT COMPUTER AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH PERFORMANCE OF FAN ISSUES. APPEARS THEY ALL USE SAME COMPUTER BUT CHIPS ARE DIFFERENT BETWEEN EVEN 305 AND 350 TPI'S.......BY THE WAY, ARE YOU INSINUATING YOU WOULD LIKE TO HIT ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD FOR TRYING TO HELP??????? HMMMMMMM........ IF YOU HADN'T PUT IN THE 230 DEGREES I WOULDN'T HAVE MENTIONED THE TEMP SWITCH. THOUGHT MAYBE YOU WERE NOT ENJOYING THAT TEMP EITHER........HMMMMMMMMM......CHECK OUT A WEBSITE THAT OFFERS REPLACEMENT CHIPS FOR THESE TWO VEHICLES AND SEE IF THEY ARE THE SAME PART NUMBER...........I'M FINDING THEY ARE DIFFERENT MYSELF.......

There is a ThirdGen forum for PROMs, something I'd like to get into later.
Anyway, from reading that forum it's easy to see that there are differences between chips produced in different years. Might want to take this question to the PROM section for a more specific answer.
