Leaking radiator.

I have a leaking radiator where the black plastic sides meet the cooling coils or whatever they are called. Is this something a radiator shop can repair? or am I going to have to replace it?

I have another radiator I parted from my old firebird but it has a lot of fin damage. What is the best way to repair bent fins on these radiators? I found a fin comb but I don't think that would work on these radiators...

Re: Leaking radiator.

Best bet will to be just buy a new one. Usually runs around $100-130. Right around the plastic tanks is were they normally leak when they go bad. You could try a temp fix with some JB weld but given time it will start to leak again.

If you have the fin comb i would try it, i haven't personally but i have seen it done and it worked well.

yep once the tanks separate its done...stock replacement or dig deep for an all aluminum.

Re: Leaking radiator.

Proliance and Transpro make all metal radiators I think... They even have the same picture and part number, I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same thing but they have a brass/copper core I don't know what that means but I know some people like them more.

Anyways are they really all metal? and will all metal radiators prevent the tanks from separating?

Autozone sells the Transpro one heres a link,

RockAuto.com sells the Proliance one heres a link,

One more question it doesn't look like they have the hose port thing... under the radiator cap for the heater hose maybe this radiator really doesn't have it or this picture is a picture of a different radiator with out it. Does any one know??

I just noticed this but the radiators I was just looking at are bigger than stock autozone says its, 2 row, 26 3/8" x 17" x 1 1/4" core size, copper brass core. Dose this mean it wont fit or will it be a tight fit?? I believe 1 row, 26 1/4" x 17 1/4" x 1" is stock size, right?

Re: Leaking radiator.

yes the brass/copper are all metal and while the tanks dont separate they do have other problems.

copper/brass are more durable overall but do not cool as efficiently as an aluminum core.

Re: Leaking radiator.

Maybe the 2 rows will make up for its slow cooling??

What do you think would be better? stock 1 row aluminum core or 2 row bronze/copper core in terms of cooling and reliability?

Is the cooling efficiency the only problem with them?
