switching from from fan blade to electric fans?
i wanna go with 2 electric fans when my 383 stroker motor goes in. currently on my 305 i have the fan blade. what do i have to do to get the electric fans to work. also gonna replace my rad,any recommendations for the 383 motor?
Re: switching from from fan blade to electric fans?
So right now you have a mechanical fan that is directly connected to your engine?
I am just trying to make sense of this since I did not know third gens came with mechanical fans.
I would say you would just switch all the parts over from a junk yard camaro.
I am not entirely sure about this list but you will definitely need:
Fan, Fan shroud, electrical connectors, relay, temp sensor, fan switch.
You could also need:
Intake manifold, ECU, Wiring harness.
I say this because I am not sure if your ECU has provisions for the electric fan or if it will wig if one is used. Also, manifold may or may not have provisions for the temp sensor. (Not sure on this exactly, just got mine and still learnign about these cars) you can most likely modify your harness to work but in some cases its better to just start fresh (Probably not in this case unless you are putting in an engine with a radically different wiring scheme) I hope that helps, sorry I am not an expert but I noticed this thread sitting here for days and no one replied...
BTW, how well does the mechanical fan work?

Re: switching from from fan blade to electric fans?
I switched to electric fans on my 6.2L diesel suburban. Guys on the diesel board said it might not cool enough.
All those old 6.2L diesels came with a 5 blade, 21'' viscous clutch fan.
Now my diesel has a set of 16'' and 12'' pullers and a 12'' pusher on the A/C. I only have the 16'' wired up so far and it stays off 99% of the time.
It looks like I have picked up 2MPG driving 50/50 city/highway.
Might get +3mpg highway only.
The camaro is next. It has a 19'' belt driven fan, no clutch.
I am pulling out the A/C junk, putting in a high flow thermostat and an electric fan form a V6 camaro.
