1986 T/A Cooling Fan Question

So my cooling fan has been acting up on me lately, and I can't figure it out. When my switch is turned to off, it obviously does nothing (is the fan supposed to turn of intermittently with heat even in off?). When it's in a/c and max a/c it runs full bore and does great. When it's in econo or any of the heat options, it doesn't run or kick in at all. It's been doing this just recently, and I can't understand why.

I installed a serius satelite radio system into my car recently, but that should have no bearing on the cooling fan right? Would it be a fusible link?

ANOTHER FAN . . . . OF COOLING

The cooling fan turns on when
your HVAC set to AC or DEFROST
or when the coolant goes above 220°
.
Happy Racing !

Re: 1986 T/A Cooling Fan Question

Fan needs to be on with air conditioning (keeps the pressures good, cools the A/C's condensor). Defroster it will also be on (to dehumidify the air, it runs the A/C)...if it's about 40° or colder outside, it won't run as it's not necessary for the Defroster to require air conditioning.

It won't turn on if the HVAC is on OFF, VENT, HEATER unless your engine temperature gets too hot. Around 225°. Sounds like it's working alright.

it's not turning on though thats the thing. i wait for 220 (or around 104 celsius) and nothing turns on, then it just climbs.

Re: 1986 T/A Cooling Fan Question

well i just tried a new relay, and nothing happened. I have this funky little connector hanging about, i'm not sure what it's off of, but I imagine that it might have something to do with the fan. Although it is connected to the positive battery cable and my altenator. Any ideas?

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt that connect to the electric fan? I cant remember because mine isnt stock anymore but im preety sure it does.... Why dont you just ground out the relay so it will always run when the ignition is on?
