compressor shaft seal leak

my ac compressor is leaking oil from the back at the bottom of the compressor. the hose connection is not leaking, i believe it is a shaft seal leak. it cools fine, it just leaks a can a week & stops cooling

anyone ever replace a shaft seal?
can i leave the compressor on the car?
what tools do i need?

Re: compressor shaft seal leak

u really dont Kant to open the system up. it will allow moisture to accumulate within the lines. but if u do have to replace that seal, u might want to look into replacing the dryer. (the silver cannister, it removes moisture from the system)

and btw, ive never heard of anybody having to replace the seal on their compressor. you might not even be able to buy a replacement gasket/oring. you might have to look into a new compressor.

but if it is an oring, before buying a new compressor, try replacing the oring to see if it fixes it.
