Right coolant temperature sender?

So I'm rebuilding my LG4 motor (as changing it to a TPI setup) an noticed that the coolant temperature sender I removed from the motor is not the same one listed by all of the parts stores for a replacement. Here are a couple pictures of the sender before I removed it:

The replacement sender all the parts stores have has a different connector that sticks straight out. So, is the one that was on my motor wrong or is something else going on?
Thanks,
Tony

Without a picture of new one it is hard to tell. I sounds like they sold you a fan switch. Also it looks like the conector has been replaced, so that may be an aftermarket sending unit as well.

I think like FUNIROC said, you are looking up the part # for the sensor for the computer. Should be in the intake, by the t-stat.
The one you have pictured is for the guage, and is correct.

Does it look like this?
The Coolant Temp Sensor. This is the one for my 89 RS 305 TBI, but should be the same or very similar.

I was looking for the one you pictured, and saw that one. Don't remeber what is was called though.
I think it's just a different end for the wire to go onto.
