I fixed my fan.... I think
Okay, my primary fan was not coming on at all, it turned out to be a bad relay. My connector looked like crap so I went ahead and soldered on a new one from TPI-parts in addition to the new relay. After all that I started my car and let it idle until it got warmed up. When the temp got up to about 180 the fan turned on for about 10 seconds and then went back off, then when it got up to about 220 it came on again and stayed on until it got back down to around 180. I know it was normal for it to come on at 220, but why did it come on briefly at 180?
I'm thinking maybe it was just a hot spot of coolant going past the CTS. Does that sound like a good conclusion?

Re: I fixed my fan.... I think
I spent the entire day trying to figure out how to switch my 89 gta taillight harness to work correctly with my new 91-92 taillights!
ARGHHH! did that give me a headache! Finally got it figured out and back together before the sun went down.
Pics of the new taillights installed are currently on photobucket (page4) highlighted below.
on another note, maybe I should change my username to TIMMYS92GTA
After all,the only thing 89 about my ENTIRE car is the vin lol!

Okay, after fixing my primary fan yesterday, I moved onto fixing my aux fan today. I also replaced the connector and relay and I ordered AC Delco fan switch # D1855B and installed it. I found out about this switch on a Corvette forum and it turns on the aux fan at 215 instead of 238. It worked perfect!
Maybe that part # should be a sticky since so many people seem to be looking for it.

The aux fan isn't controlled by the ECM, it's just controlled by that switch (which was very easy to change BTW). So now if my temp gets up to 225 both fans will be running. That switch took less than 25 minutes to change, it was easier than changing a O2 sensor.

Re: I fixed my fan.... I think
Curious, how were you able to swap it in 25 minutes? What method did you use? Do you still have your emissions equipment?
I ask because mine failed last year and I had to go from underneath (very difficult hand positioning) and proceeded to dump coolant all over my chest and driveway. Perfect time for my impromptu winter flush, but still wasn't an easy job.
How'd you go about it, because mine was a huge PITA.

Re: I fixed my fan.... I think
I done it from underneath, I put the car on ramps. It was in plain view on mine, I just stuck my hand up in there and replaced it. I still have the smog pump and all that stuff on mine, but none of that is anywhere near the switch. I have heard others here say that theirs was seized, but mine came right out. You're right about the coolant though, a pretty good amount does come out so it's best to have a big bowl or something under there to catch it.
Thanks again!
