New Radiator Hose Or Something Else?

Hello,

I have a 1990 IROC 305 TPI Manual Trans. The car leaks about 1/4 - 1/2 Cup of coolant after I top it off and turn it off. I tightened both sides of the hose clamps as tight as they would go and it's still leaking. I took this picture while I was under the car. Do I need a new Radiator Hose or is it a bigger problem? Please and Thank You.

Re: New Radiator Hose Or Something Else?

If i were you which I'm not but if I were i would remove theand make sure that it is the proper od ( it should fit snug on the neck ) make sure it has no knicks on the inside and clean both necks off with a wire brush and wipe with glass cleaner to make sure to remove any oil residue and also wipe the i.d. of the hose where it connects to the neck as well put the hose back on and tighten the hose clamps snug and if you still have a leak replace the hose and inspect both neck to make sure they have no splits in them... Just looking at the picture you posted i'm thinking your hose is too large ( O.D. )... But that's just my two cents.... Happy Camaro-ing

That hose looks kind of bad.

Replacing it won’t hurt but it might not be the problem.

Do you have an overflow tank?

What happens to it while the leak is occurring?

Also, using more than one clamp sometimes cures the problem.

Don't forget to check the WP. In the pic, it looks like there is a coolant trail coming from the weep hole. It wouldn't hurt to change the hoses if you end up replacing the WP.

I agree with squirt, def looks like the waterpump is leaking. I'ld suggest new hoses and clamps when you do it. You may want to do the thermostat at the same time also and use quality parts so you don't need to do it again. H2O pump is pretty easy to change.
