Did it overheat?

Ok so I went out on a drive awhile ago and car was running good and temp was around 165ish. Got back on the interstate and gauge said 280..maxed out. I don't think this can be because the coolant was not boiling and engine was acting normal. Also, I checked my coolant and it is supposed to boil round little over 200 because I need to mix it better. I just put a new sending unit for the gauge the other day and it was working great. So maybe it is bad?? It is just a one wire gauge that has a spring in the unit...I know this because I broke the last one lol.

Re: Did it overheat?

I'm pretty sure it is the gauge or sending unit. I went and let it cool down then started it up and it was around 120 or so then I rev'd the car up and the gauge shot up to max so idk what is making it do that. Maybe I need to solder the wire to the sending unit like it was before. The instructions said you could crimp it but that may be the problem.
