Fans question/help
88 GTA 350 I have never heard my fans kick on, the car will get hot, but the fans never run. is there a way to test them, or where should i even begin to look, besides lettin the car get hot.
at what temp should they kick on, my aftermarket guage will read 250 degrees, but my oem digital dash gauge (which i dont trust it) always seems to stay around 210 so i dont know.
but i would like to test this some how

from looking a little, my fans seem to kick on when i turn the a/c on, my car is already hot, the temp is reading on the aftermarket guage 185 and when i kicked the a/c on the fans kick on
but should the fan ahould also run without the a/c on, anyone no what temp it will kick on.

you need more CFM moving... you can leav it stock and deal with the hot some days and ok on others. or do like i did and just piggy back your fans.. do not Cut the wire.. but splice into it.. from the main fan.. and upgrade the fuse just a tad... now when your main fan Kicks on the 2 fans move alot more CFM.. by doing this.. you will see how easy it is...

Re: Fans question/help
220°F for the primary (ECM switched), 238°F secondary (fan switch).
If the engine is running 185°, it is already 10° cooler than stock. There is no need to do anything to the wiring.
If it is a stock or, near stock motor, there is no performance to be gained by running the motor cooler, just less mpg to be had.
Wiring the fan power wires together and letting one relay do the job is not the way to fix the problem either.

Re: Fans question/help
The problem I have is you were suggesting overloading the factory relay with basically a (what I consider) hack job and offering it as a solution.
If the OEM relay was replaced with a proper relay to handle the load of the two fans, it's not an issue. Not stated in your reply.
The problem lies in you are suggesting tieing the two fans together on sub par wiring (rated just enough for one fan) along with using a relay rated for only one fan. Also, bypassing the relay that is already factory wired for the second fan.
The biggest problem is that you are suggesting to overload a switch that could potentially overload and cause an electrical fire. Why, the contacts to the relay are not able to handle the current but, the fuse link is.
It would be like putting a 20A breaker on your house 15A wiring. THe wiring will catch fire when overloaded before the breaker trips.
Same thing with my fuse analogy.
I apologize if I am coming off as harsh but, due to your lack of explaining in detail (or using correct terms), you're giving bad,and potentially dangerous advice.

Re: Fans question/help
NO PROB. back when i did the car.. i wanted to make sure every thing worked.. and would work 100%.
Linginfelter also helped out with knowing some of the probs i would have.
fan relays switchs and sending units.. all set to make things work better.
after looking at my note books (i had to make one for the car)
with all the NOS lines and Fuses and safty switches.
and fuel Pump set up just for that..
as well as the custom prom with the stock prom on it's back.
Hypertech. set to run with the NOS.
and the Fogger systm
and the full mech roller cam.. and gear drive.
there was alot of things I did to get the Car to work 100% all the time.
so thats why i posted Piggy back.. (with out remembering) what all i and Linginfelter did..
i did not care that GM set up the fans to run diff from one another..i wanted them to run at the same time.. as the more CFM you have the cooler it will run.. as well as the right parts to go with the 2 fans running at the same time..
so i should have posted. a bit more info and name the right parts..
your right..
and after looking at the note book i remember after getting it all set up it was Just fun to drive it... without doing anything to it.. check lash about 1 time a month.(thats me) drop 8qt's of oil every. month (agen me) and check plugs every 2 to 3 weeks.. just to see how things look inside... more info would have been better.. yes..
