Blower motor stuck on

Yeah, so, okay. My husband and I went to the Drive in tonight in the Camaro. I turned on the heater quick to de-fog the windshield, and after that, the blower motor stayed on. It stayed on for the whole movie. It was kind of annoying because it was blowing outside air in, and it was kind of cold. Anyway...it stays on, even with the key not in the ignition. It'll stay on until the battery dies. I disconnected the blower motor.

I have no idea what the problem could be, if it's the motor or some relay somewhere, or if it's something with the controls themselves.

Also, this may sound incredibly dumb, but am I good to go, as far as driving it around with the blower motor unplugged? I don't really have the time, energy, or money to fix it/replace it right now, and it's not like the AC or heater worked that great anyway.

Yes. However, I'd be somewhat concerned about the lack of the defroster.

Re: Blower motor stuck on

Yeah, the lack of a defroster is a bit of a problem, but I only ever drive short distances in it, so it's not a big deal. It's our "weekend car" so, it doesn't bother me that much. It goes to the drive in, to the park, and out cruising with the t-tops out.

The problem is, I have no idea what the real issue is, or even where said relays and resistors would be. I think it's time to go buy the Haynes manual. Any pointers for the time being?

Sounds as though the blower motor high speed relay may be stuck on. It's a small square relay located (the only one) directly by the blower motor.

If you unplug this relay (motor plug reattached) and it (the blower) doesn't run, the relay has arced itself closed (common problem of older/infrequently used relays). The high speed relay is powered separately (direct battery power) from the resistor pack. The 'hi' setting from the HVAC blower controls, powers the relay instead of the blower.

Granted, that's just a guess and my description is probably a bit incoherent to read.....
