Re: how bad is it too overheat fresh motor

same thing happened to me last summer fresh motor wasnt paying any attention to the temp gauge till the car started running like **** i didnt really drive it much after that for the summer and this winter i put in a bigger radiator and electric fans no more cooling issues but after maybe 500 miles all together since the motor was done i only drove it a week or two this year and i have a bad lifter i dont know if its related to it overheating but... now i refuse to drive it until i have enough $$$$
to fix it

might of hurt, might not of. its to late for that now so lets try fixing the problem. do you have a thermostat? do you have electric fans? do they work? is your radiator junk? is somethign blocking air flow to your radiator?

Steel heads? probly not, steel heads would almost survive the holocaust without warping. Aluminum heads on the other hand...

They would be iron heads, not steel. But if you didnt burn up a head gasket or anything like that from overheating, its fine. Overheating and engine wont ALWAYS screw something up.

That is why your radiator cap vents off the excess pressure. I have seen mine peg about 6 times until I found the problem was the fuse link going to the fan. The engine is still running and going strong. It has almost 190,000 miles on it now.
