Water pump question, part numbers, help me out

So I bought an ac delco pump from rock auto for my build. After having some weird cooling issues, I am beginning to think it may be the incorrect pump. They list it as a factory replacement, for 88-89 iroc, 90 iroc, blah blah, basically 88+ cars, but no where does it say reverse rotation. Anyway, the part number is 252719(88926233), http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=344586.

I would like to replace it with this one, which I know to be a reverse rotation pump, 88894005, which seems to have been replaced by 251725,http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=73156.

Any thoughts guys, I know of people getting incorrect pumps. Thanks

Will

Re: Water pump question, part numbers, help me out

The only cars that I know of that ran the reverse rotation water pumps are the ones with the factory serpentine bracket setup. It has nothing to do with the motor or anything else - only has to do with the bracket setup. The factory serp systems required a reverse flow water pump due to the belt routing - all others used a standard rotation pump that I know of.

If they can't tell you with certainty what the rotation is, I know for a fact that if you pick a pump for a 1992 5.0Litre TBI car, that will be reverse rotation. And if you pick a pump for a 1987 5.7Litre TPI that is a standard rotation. My car is a 1992 RS, was a 5.0 TBI car, and the factory pump was reverse rotation - but I got rid of the serp system, and installed a 1987 5.7 TPI pump which is standard rotation. Hope that helps.
