I'm changing my thermostat from a 180 to a 160. Is it easy to change without lossing any coolant. Do i need to decompression the system? If I do, how can i do it ? Thanks for the help.

 

If your car is computer controlled, which I would say yes since it's a TPI... don't go 160.. you will most likely have performance issues... the lowest you want to go is 180 unless you have a custom chip that calls for a 160 thermostat... you will lose performance and your gas mileage will most likely suffer as well.. your car will have trouble reaching closed loop ....

either way, you've been warned... the easiest way to swap the thermostat is to make sure you have no pressure in your cooling system, then take your cap off and try and siphon some coolant out, placing it in a bucket or something so you can reuse it afterward, once this is done then you want to take off the upper radiator hose from the radiator and with a cup try collect as much coolant as you can, after this is done... place as many towels as you can around the T-stat housing so it absorbs any extra coolant... here on out should be straight forward... make sure you remove any gasket material before putting a new one on... you may also want to use some silicon on the engine side of the gasket...
