Fan on condensor

Fan on condensor

I have dual 12" puller fan's on the radiator and was wondering if anyone knows if I can also run a pusher fan on the condensor to help cool it?

I have a transmission cooler in front of my condenser. So no room to mount a fan in front of it. (The cooler is 11 x 12" and doesn't have a fan attached to it)

I doubt very many people would have tried to attach a fan to a condenser anyways.

Last summer I thought I'd see what the condenser was capable of. I turned the low pressure cycle switch down low enough that cycling was out of the mix. On the highway, I was getting 30° duct temps. In the city it dropped down to 24°. This was summertime in Houston, which is not too friendly to air conditioning performance. This lead me to believe that the best performance comes from driving less than 40 mph. Why? Because above 40 mph, the fans are off automatically. Depending solely on air dam and condenser at speeds above 40. This also showed me that the stock dual fans on a stock radiator are capable of delivering high performance cooling. Regardless, I got tired of getting the shakes while driving down the street. Hypothermia isn't any more fun in the summer than it is in the winter. So I turned it back to stock cycling points. Why bother wasting fuel to run the A/C that cold anyways was my thought.

Now where a condenser mounted fan would be handy would be in situations where you have a gigantic radiator installed and the stock radiator fans wouldn't be capable of pulling enough air through. But that is usually remedied by having aftermarket high cfm radiator fans. Essentially re-equalizing the radiator to radiator fan size ratio.

Now any climate (AZ, NV, TX, FL) that would even consider putting a condenser fan in would be better spent having a transmission cooler in that area instead anyways.

I always thought the one fan ALWAYS stayed on with A/C, and in the single fan cars the fans always run with A/C, regardless of speed. I know in my RS (single fan) speed never changed the fan, only temps and/or A/C running did.

I put aftermarket fan's on mine and one fan works with the temp sensor and the other one comes on when I turn the a/c on. It just doesn't feel like it blows that cold in the middle of the day in South Houston. I replaced the whole system, so everything is new. I converted to R-134, not sure if I should switch to cool top or something. Work's great at night time or in the morning, just suck's when temps are around 95 to 105.

Yeah,As Camaronewbie said, i believe my single fan is always on with AC and I never was aware of it cutting off at higher speeds, but then again I never got out and checked while driving??

Fan on/off are in my sig. Granted, I can't exactly test to see if it's actually going off at 40 mph (can't hear the fans when the car is on), but the A/C does work better at 35 mph than it does at 45 mph. Not a huge difference. But noticable (I have a digital temperature probe in the duct a lot of the time)

Your A/C system sounds about right for this time of year. Afternoon with the sun shining down at these temps/humidity outside is a tough job for any air conditioning system. Especially at idle.

Since your whole system is new, I think you'd benefit from a can of CryoChem's Tune Air. I might be ordering some in the next week or two anyways.
