Custom Engine cooling system
I was watching musclecar a few months ago when I remembered one of the mods they did. They took this monte Carlo (has pretty much the same headlight setup as the camaro) where they removed the outside headlights and hooked up hoses where they put the air filters and they ran them up to the airfilter on top the engine. I was wondering if I could the same with my TPI engine and if it would help my engine run cooler and if it would make my car have increased power. So the hose would start at the spot where the headlight was removed and they would both go in the TPI as shown in this picture.

Re: Custom Engine cooling system
Nope, it wouldn´t make the engine run cooler. Allit would do is get more air into the engine where with TPI this shouldn´t be your main issue.
Small gains maybe, nothing worth your while if the rest of the intake is stock though.
Best keep your current intake system and consider E-fan setup (maybe with shroud) and modifications to your airdam, as well as finding ways to extract heat built up under the hood.
Please also consider that the engine has a rather high operating temperature, which was designed this way by GM.

The factory fans on the 87 IROC are very effective. I know, I run 470hp on them with no issues. If you want cooler temp, change the thermal fan switch to a lower temp. Search threads on this forum for the part#. I think it is GP Sorenson FTS6, but its on here somewhere.
As far as ram air, which is what youre talking about. It will not cool the motor. It is intended to increase power by creating pressure at the throttle body. It is a worthwhile endevour but you will have to figure out how to incorporate you MAF into it. Or spend big bucks and go speed density like I did. Then spend lots of time tuning with your laptop.
For a really cool ram air setup, look for Ibad91Z on here. Hes created the coolest ram air Ive seen yet, and a high flow air box lid to go with it. Very cool. The IROC lends itself quite nicely to this design. 1bad just beat me to it cause hes a big jerk and I hate his car too. JK
