Re: Modified 305 Cooling issues
1) You mentioned new water pump - got the right one? V-belt cars had a standard rotation, serp belt cars get a reverse rotation - what belt system are you running?
2) When is it overheating? Intown or on highway?
3) Fan working?
4) Have you tried a new radiator cap?

update
The pully is v groove and the fan is non clutch.
Water pump appears to be functioning as the water flows quite rapidly on visual inspection under cap.
With thermostat removed, the engine rose to 185 in about 5 minutes of conservative city driving. Once on an open road and accelerating to about 70, the temp shot to about 240. It returned to 220 while idling for 5 minutes. During 15 minutes of 30mph the temp held. A short speed up to 60 rose the temp to 225, where it stayed even at slower speeds.
I plan to drain the system and install new coolant and try again. Howevr, I am beginning to think the modifications with force a more robust cooling solution.

Re: Modified 305 Cooling issues
So it's heating up on the highway - sounds like the air dam is missing - supposed to be right under radiator, plastic piece about 3 ft long and 4 inches wide. Car will overheat at highway speeds without it - fans do no good at all above 40mph. If it's missing, get one, make one, whatever.

Glad it worked out!
