A/C Questions

I have a 1987 Trans-Am that I converted to 134A. I filled it with 3 cans of 134A with oil and stop leak mixed in. I over filled the system so I let some pressure out through the gages. When I took them off I had a leak at the low side shredder valve and it hardened right away. I tried to get it out but I made it worse and gave up. It slowly leaked and now my system is empty. I took off the 134A adapters and the R12 shredder valves are fine so I put a new adapters on.

I now have 3 questions.

1) Which fixed orifice office tube should I use to replace the one in there? When I had it running the A/C would start off cold then steadily warm up. I hardly had a temp difference at the orifice tube so I am thinking it might be plugged.

2) When I open the system at the orifice tube will the the remaining sealant also plug the system?

3) Do I need to need to add more oil after I suck it down?

Thank You George

1) You have two choices. The stock "white" 0.072 GM orifice or the "blue" 0.067 Ford orifice......The blue one is commonly recommended. Should help with low speed driving (city, stop and go). The white one would work a bit better at highway speeds (70+ mph). Most people have trouble with A/C when slowly moving or not moving.

2) Hard to say. I would guess that if it's air activated, that it would use itself up. I don't like to use stop leak products unless it's really necessary.

3) Vacuuming won't remove the oil. No need to add more oil unless you're putting on a new accumulator.
