air in cooling system??

I was out messing around with my car and had radiator cap off. Was running rough, just started it, so I was reving it up. I notices that coolent would spew out of top when I did that, and then when I looked at it I looked all bubblely , maybe a little foamy. Is this normal? If not what do I need to check? Repair?

Re: air in cooling system??

Are you talking about the actual radiator cap on the radiator or the cap on the coolant reservoir. If your talking about the rad cap then your car is fine. When you revved the engine you made the water pump spin faster causing coolant shoot out of the radiator. You also shouldn't run it without the cap for extended period of time as the cooling system is supposed to stay pressurized.
