AC Deleted, Fan Always On

I just removed my AC except for the box and left all the wiring intact, just unplugged. Now the driver's side fan (is this the secondary?) runs whenever the car is running. It doesn't run with just the ignition on, the engine must be running. Is there wiring I have to modify to get it to only come on at temp? It's as if it thinks the AC is on all the time now. I don't want to wire it to a switch, because the other fan is already.

Primary. Put a jumper in the pug (blue and blk wires) that was plugged into the hard line that was on the passenger side frame rail. It's a normally closed to ground pressure switch (fan request), open with a/c on. Unplugging it, the ecm assumes a/c is on and runs the primary (for '87).

Re: AC Deleted, Fan Always On

What were these wires plugged into exactly? I'm not finding any blue wires on the passenger side. There is a one prong plug on the passenger side (black/red) with a separate ground wire (black). On the driver's side where the AC compressor was (I have a V belt set up if that changes anything) there are two connectors: blue/black and green/white on a round connector and black and either blue or green on a flat connector. Could this be it? I believe it snuck behind the compressor pulley and plugged in there. This wiring could be all moved around because it's pretty apparent that the AC was taken out and put back in somewhere in history before I got the car. It was bone dry and the compressor wires are wrapped in some kind of aluminum tape or something and tucked between the runners and the valve cover.

The line was on the passenger side frame rail (ran over the top of the coolant hard line for the heater core). It ran from the evaporator (in the blower box) to the condenser (in front of the radiator).
The plug would be round, two terminal with a black and a blue wire. It would have been plugged in about as far back as the strut.

Re: AC Deleted, Fan Always On

Ok so I finally found that round plug (almost looks like a 2 prong 120V socket) and jumped it. But the fan is still always on. When reading my scanner, it says "AC not requested" so why is the fan still on? Oh and by the way, in my car the wires were blue and green. Odd?

At this point I'm thinking of finding an AC delete box, but will that take care of the wiring issues? I did some searching and still don't understand what's involved.

Edit: Ok nevermind, clearly the AC delete box only takes care of the blower wiring. So what am I supposed to do with the rest of the wiring? Compressor wiring, condenser, and whatever else these wires were for. Clearly I can't just remove them since my fan is running non stop now.

Ok I know a thousand of you have already done this, maybe I'm just not asking the question right. How about this...

What do I do with these wires? The round one is the one I'm supposed to jump and it should have shut off the fan right?

And what about the compressor wires?

Can I trace them back to the ECM and cut them out entirely? How do I get my fan acting normal? There's tons of info on what to do about my blower, but what about theeeeeeese?! I have no reason to ever want this system back, the T-Tops are my AC!

Re: AC Deleted, Fan Always On

Wow... revival!

If the blue and green wires you're talking about were on the plug (circled green), that's the wrong plug. That's for the clutch cycling pressure switch, would have been mounted on the accumulator.

The A/C line the fan pressure switch was on was on the lower fitting of your evaporator (yellow arrow), the plug/switch would have been on the hard line near your strut tower (red arrow)

All the wires shown (in your above pictures) can be cut and discarded.

Re: AC Deleted, Fan Always On

Yes, this car is a work in progress. Slow, slow progress.

After about 15 more seconds of looking, I found it...much smaller plug than the one I was jumping. I had apparently tucked it away very well two years ago so that it looked like it was routed somewhere else.

Ok so now I have the right plug and know that I can remove the leftovers (thank you deadbird!), but I still have one question. How do I get around this without having this connector jumped? Is this switch in the PROM, or is this connector just wired to the fan relay? I want all of the wiring gone. I can't find this circuit in any wiring diagrams I can find, though I am still waiting for a proper shop manual to come in the mail.

Re: AC Deleted, Fan Always On

The blue wire leads to the ECM, the black ground. The wires come from the bulkhead in the passenger side door hinge pillar (iirc that it goes there... bulkhead is behind the kick panel). As long as it has chassis ground (the blue wire), it doesn't matter where you cut it, just ground it wherever you can find that it out of the way.

The fan pressure switch on an '87 (probably 85-87 ?) opens with the A/C on. 88+ reversed and the wire was grey. The circuit opening, with a working charged A/C, tells the ECM to run the fan. This was not the A/C input to the ECM though, iirc. Non A/C cars had the blue wire grounded factory.

Believe me, I fully understand long term projects.... lol
