overheating?

Hello,I have an 89 camaro with a 305 tbi.Due to really hot weather here in texas My car has be experiencing really bad overheating.I decided to replace the orileys electric fan with a flex fan and the sun pro guages have been showing the car running at 150-160 temperature but when I opened the hood I saw the water in the coolant reservoir bubbling.A friend of mine told me the radiator cap that releases pressure could be the cause of this but can it really cause the water to overheat?any suggestions why my car is still overheating so much?I already replaced the water pump, radiator and installed a 160 thermostat.

Re: overheating?

was it boiling or just bubbling? at 160 it shouldnt be boiling however at 160 it will have expanded and will be pushing some coolant out (its supposed to) and if it really is boiling find out the actuall temp. water doesnt boil till 212 and antifreeze plus the preasure in the cap raises that temp so unless you live in a vacuum it cant boil at 160*

Re: overheating?

well now that you mention it I'm not sure if it was bubbling or boiling but the engine bay was hot and I really doubt its normal for me to be able to hear the bubbling inside the car.But the coolant reservoir was expanded though. And I know the coolant guage is accurate because when I had the electric fan it would show 230+ temperature.I guess ill try to replace the cap next..
