lower hose sucking shut.

On my old 383 when i rev up the motor the lower hose would start to suck close. Not the whole way. When driving motor temps would be around 200 when idle it would go up to 220. Replaced the rad. cap and seemed to improve a little. One guy tells me i need a hose with a spring in it and another tells me i have a pressure problem.

what do you guys think.

Re: lower hose sucking shut.

Need a spring in it. Either yours is worn out or the hose is just so old that it cannot retain its shape.

I'd replace the hose.

Ok so your saying I need a spring in it. do i buy it and put it in. I went to three different auto stores plus the dealer and they do not sell a hose with the spring in.

Yep - the lower hoses have a spring in them to keep from collapsing - any spring that fits into the hose and just barely fits inside will work. They use a spring so it flexes with the bend.

Re: lower hose sucking shut.

A new hose from a parts store should already have it in there. Never seen a separate spring you can buy for a hose. New hose time?
