need help with fan

I recently had a 383 stroker put in my 91 camaro and I currently have the stock single fan hooked up to run as long as the key is on. My car is running hotter than what I would like and I know a dual fan setup would help my question is does anybody know of a direct fit dual fan kit that i can just hook up with my stock wiring? thanks for the help

Re: need help with fan

Your going to need additional wiring - the dual fan setups (since there are 2 fans) have more wiring than a single setup - it's a given.

If you simply want both fans to come on at the same time, then you can use your existing wiring and just add splice in wiring for the extra fan - but you need to use a relay, so that when the first fan comes on, it activates a relay that runs the second fan directly from battery power rather than having two fans draw those high amps through the single fan wiring.

You can do this by splicing in a wire on the existing fan wiring, running it to terminal 85 of a relay, then connect terminal 86 to a ground, terminal 87 to the second fan (nice guage wire here, like 10 guage), and another 10guage wire from battery (or the power distribution block) to relay terminal 30.

Then, when fan1 comes on, 12v+ is also sent to the relay on 85, which is already grounded on 86, thus "activating" the relay, and switching the battery power (on terminal 30) from 87a (not connected) to 87 (power to fan2).

But, another option is just a better, higher cfm single fan. Just wire it with your existing wires, no additional wiring needed. The same $100 that would be needed to get a dual fan setup would easily buy a nice aftermarket high cfm single fan.

Might also look into a lower temp switch (so fan comes on earlier), or a seperate fan controller that is adjustable. I run a fully adjustable Flex-a-lite controller, had it 5 years now, works great, and keeps my 350 penty cool (never see over 200), and I'm still using the stock single fan.

Good luck!
