1986 Camaro A/C Overheating Issue
Hello all. I am new to this forum and appreciate any help I can get from you guys that know it the best. I have a 1986 Iroc z28 Camaro with the stock carbed 305 with 49,000 miles. When I drive it without the a/c on, the temp stays around 200ish and sometimes a tad cooler. When I turn the a/c on, temp goes up to 240ish. Won't go higher ( I turn a/c off and turn the heat on the temp goes back down to 200ish). Fan is turning on, changed the stat, fan switch, coolant flush, switch by stat, air dam is intact, new altenator, and new battery. The car only gets hot when I turn the a/c on. I have been reading about a/c adjustments of some sort that have solved the problem but I was wondering if any one had more detail on how to do it, if that is even something I should be concerned with, or should I look some where else before I go that route. I see this seems to be a constant issue but I really didn't see a set solution. Any help is appreciated.Oh ya, 90ish degrees in my place of living right now. Thanks in advance!

Re: 1986 Camaro A/C Overheating Issue
The stock single fan does a really mediocre job. I messed with the settings in the ECM to get the fan to come on earlier and I used Water Wetter, installed a Modine Aluminum radiator etc.
I eventually upgraded to dual fans (i used a set out of a 2000ish Intrepid) and those things push some air. This actually took a bit of grinding to get it to fit around the power steering box and into the dimensions of the radiator.
A popular fan swap is to use the LT1 or LS1 dual fans and figure out how to wire them up. Or you could find a factory dual fan setup from an 87 up car and install those.
It was 104 here yesterday and I know just how you feel when you turn the A/C on and the temperature on the engine starts rising.
