Ok, after swapping out my worn out 305 cid with a 350 bore .040 over I also decided to do away with my weak electric cooling fan. I got a fan shourd from an older 83 Trans Am with the mechanial fan but! the I had to use a fan from another chevy engine. I ran the bolts through the fan into the water pump however, I want to swap it out for a clutch fan since I want to go back with air conditioning. anyone have a picture of what this is suppose to look like. It would be greatly appreciated. someone please help.

What is it you want to see? It's pretty straight foward. The clutch bolts to the w/p hub, the fan bolts to the clutch.

Mechanical fan is a huge step backwards. If your fan motors are the problem, you can buy new ones for a reasonable price at any auto parts store.

A good clutch may only cost you 5hp, not a huge step back. Those are much more effective in cooling esp. if you have a/c.
Does that T/A have tpi? Tpi wasn't teamed w/ a mech. fan as far as I know, the ducting may be in the way.

It's not just the HP loss. A fan of any type is not required in 95% of driving situations. For when it is needed, electric assist is the answer.

Especially since the OP already has the setup, he just needs to figure out the problem. The stock dual fan setup is just wonderful.

Re: mechanical fan for 1986 Trans Am
the camaro and firebird v8 shrouds had different size fan
opening-camaro used 18.5"dia fan while firebird used 17
inch diameter fan.The same fan used on '82-85 firebird
was also used on a lot of '80-'90 cadillacs with the 368,
diesel, and olds 307 engines-the fan clutch drive hub
might have different bolt circle with those cadi engines
though(the 4.1 cadi engine fan clutch is the same bolt
circle as chevy)With a properly sized fan clutch the HP
draw will be less than 1 hp most of the time.
