By Passing Heater Core

I have a leaking heater core and I want to by pass it. I have changed my car over to a carb and I am also looking at cleaning things up under the hood. I will not be using the car in the winter. I wanted to by pass the heater core.

My question is would it be better to use a threaded pipe plug on the water pump and intake manifold ( to block both areas off) or would it be better to run a short section of hose from the water pump to the intake manifold.

I read that capping the water pump and intake manifold with a threaded pipe fitting could cause Cavitation.

I do have a robert shaw thermostat with by-pass holes drilled into it and I am running a stewart stage 2 pump.
