fan wont come on when overheating, but will when a/c is turned on?
i read a lot of the posts and there is a lot of great information, my '92 rs 5.7 litre just started to go into the red and overheat, the fan is not coming on when it is overheating! altho, it comes on when i run the a/c...i either want to troubleshoot it and/or install the toggle switch that a lot of you prefer- its an electric fan, and only one fan blade (single fan?)
if anyone can help, i would appreciate it

did you or someone else put the 5.7 in?
If If If your RS is stock it will have a 305 tbi (that explains the single fan).
If it was a factory 5.7 it would have 2 fans..
now it sounds like fan relay may have taken a dookie on ya
Either way it helps if you have a factory Helm service manual.

Thnx ttop350, I am not so sure of the engine size etc, but I am sure it physically has just a single fan blade, is there a way to check if its the relays ?

It's not the relay, because on a single fan setup, the same single relay is controlled by the A/C switch and the fan switch.
The problem is the fan switch, or it's wiring. It's located in the right head between #6 and #8 spark plugs. Ideal replacement is Standard Motor Products # TS85. It comes on at 211 degrees, right where you want it.
No need to monkey around with a manual switch when the corrrect solution is so elegant and inexpensive.

Hi, yeah the fan switches stop working frequently due to dumb design. The AC does the same thing the switch does and actuates the relay which is obviously working fine. Replacing the switch is the easiest fix. Have fun, Henry

Replaced temp switch in mine, failed 6 months later. Thru in toggle switch, works great just need a brain to shut it off as to not drain the battery!
