Coolant sensors
Hi
My IROC needs a new radiator. So I'm thinking I'll change the hoses at the same time, but now might also be the time to sort out the non-functioning temperature gauge.
I gather there are two sensors - one for the dash gauge, the other for the ECM?
Am I right in thinking the ECM sensor is on the front of the block below the air intake, and the dash sensor is between 1 and 3 spark plugs?
Are the two sensors the same part numbers?
Thanks!

Re: Coolant sensors
nope, one is a coolant temp sensor (the one on the intake), the other is a guage sending unit. they do 2 completely different things and do not interchange.

Re: Coolant sensors
Thanks - looking on Rock Auto, I can see the section under Cooling for 'Temperature Sender'.
Are these the gauge sender unit or the coolant sensor?
Can you point me in the direction of a coolant sensor?
Sorry for the questions!

if your check engine light isnt on, then you most likely dont need a coolant sensor. the coolant sensor is what tells the ecm what temp the coolant is. if your gauge isnt working, it could be that it needs a new sender (which would be the temp sender) or it could be that the wire just is unplugged, which is fairly common.

Cool, so I think I've got the sender. The SES light is fine so I guess I can leave that bit alone. Just one of those jobs that I thought I might as well do while the rad's out and the coolant system's being sorted, along with a new thermostat.

Re: Coolant sensors
Thanks -
Appears I've got to hand the Standard TX3 sensor.
This appears on RockAuto as a temperature sender, but on another UK based site as a coolant sensor.
Any ideas?

Re: Coolant sensors
Just spoke to my UK specialist, they confirmed the TX3 is the coolant sensor, and are shipping out a gauge sender with my new radiator hoses.
