AC Delco 170 thermostat? Part Number?

Howdy,
I am having a little trouble keeping my temp down(230-240) in a new rebuilt vortec block with stock heads and a small cam. the cooling system is brand new w/ 195 t-stat, the temp spikes to 240 then drops to 220, or it jumps to 230 from the beginning and holds steady. I was told by a tech to look into an AC Delco 170 t-stat, and then drill some 1/8" holes into it. He said considering the motor is putting out a little more hp that it may be running hotter. The EGR valve failure did pop up when we ran the codes but that could be from the temp getting higher than normal. it is a brand new EGR so that surely cant be screwed up already. i'm rolling on 450 miles on this motor and need to get it figured out. Overall I am looking for the part number for this ACDELCO t-stat to make sure the idiots at GM know which one i'm talking about. i've got GM PN#12514334 and AC PN#131-87
Thanks and Gig'em!!!
