intake manifold gasket and motor oil ?

I was given a quote on replacing a intake manifold gasket because of a coolant leak.. My question is = Why did they add a oil change in the price and they also want to charge me for a jug of antifreeze . I replaced the gasket years ago and did not loose coolant.

you do have the coolant crossover on the intake so they'll have to drain off a little to make sure nothing pours into the oil or cylinders. oil change is just cheap insurance in case something does fall in (like coolant or debris)

they did it right then. i always change the oil when doing the intake gaskets. and even if i dont use the whole jug of antifreeze i still charge the whole jug.

Thats kinda what I thought but wanted to make sure.I hope its not mandatory for them to do the oil change .I change my own oil and filter with Mobil 1 Synthetic and the taller Bosch filter.

Edit= I guess the hole point of changing the oil then and there is to keep the contaminants from cycling through the system.
Maybe they will let me supply/bring the oil and filter.

Re: intake manifold gasket and motor oil ?

More than likely they will. Its always a good idea to change the oil if the intake comes off. Also a good idea to actually drain the coolant from the block so coolant doesn't pour into the block valley.

Re: intake manifold gasket and motor oil ?

The shop I'm going to has a very good reputation and I'm sure that my little problem is old hat for them and I'm sure there used to the customers asking about what "needs" to be done ,as opposed to asking exactly how there doing it. Oh well its my car and my money so I'm going to ask what the procedure entails.

Edit = Its not that I don't trust them, it is that I want know a few things for future reference.
