1988 camaro rs 2.8 v6 overheating
my problem is that my camaro is overheating my air damn is brand new, rad,new 16' fan two of them 180degree thermostat .it runs good in the cold weather when it get like 70 degrees out it starts over heating all city driving i dont understand why it would be overheat aslo i forgot to mention brand new water pump
Re: 1988 camaro rs 2.8 v6 overheating
Have you checked that the fans are running? If you have AC, turning that on should immediately make the fans run. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that the temperature switch is working, the only way to check that is to let it get hot.
Are you losing coolant?

Could be your temp sensor, is it boiling over? are you loosing fluid? What does your temperature control read in the dash? Are you going by the gauge?

I'm not much of a mechanic, I wish I were and could help you more. Sounds like it could be the timing. I know the basics, but get most of my work done by a mechanic.
I know my 2.8 V6 over heated but once I flushed the rad and got a airdam the problem solved. Hope you get it fixed soon. Best wishes.

There is a guy in here that knows these motors inside and out, I will try and find him and add his name to thread. Maybe he could answer some of your questions. His Member name is Maverick H1L, he answers alot of questions about these motors.

I bet you have the wrong directionally water pump and it's spinning the wrong way.

Re: 1988 camaro rs 2.8 v6 overheating
Um, Haynes has a nice pic of the water pump on a v-belt car and the pulley still has 4 bolts.
Definitely need to make sure the W/P is designed to go COUNTER-clockwise. I don't have the P/N on the pump I bought a couple years ago (only to find out the belt noise was the tensioner pulley going out) handy to compare. And yes, wrong parts DO come in the right boxes (those were some expensive exhaust clamps I took back to NAPA because some idiot at the warehouse or wherever decided to put 2 1/2" clamps in the 2 1/4" boxes
).
If you're not losing coolant, have an air dam, have a cooler thermostat (stock is 195), and the fan is working, that leaves either clogged ports in the head gaskets, clogged radiator, or backwards water pump. Or a combination of all 3. Try a system flush first, after you make sure they gave you the pump you're supposed to have.

If he has the wrong pump, he'd have either an extra bolt hole or a bolt with no place to go. Plus the serp w/p have a cast boss for the p/s pump bracket. Timing cover coolant passages are different too.

Re: 1988 camaro rs 2.8 v6 overheating
ok found the problem it was the thermostat the one in it was made by hypertech 180 with failsafe dont buy them the bore where the thermostat sits in since it had a failsafe it wouldnt allow in to open because the fact the hole wasnt deep enough to let it open up but its fixed now with a 192f thermostat runs like a champ never goes pass 200 now
