Fixed one problem...Now another

Ok, I fixed the idle problem on my camaro, now I have a overheating problem. I installed a Griffin radiator in my car, but the temp will still rise to 210 (I shut if off b/c of the high compression engine) I am running a fan on the pulley (stock fan) and the guy that built my engine made some by-pass thing with my themostat. Suppose to cool better than a thermostat. But I am worried. I know its hot out but I can go more than 10 miles without the temp getting high. Any ideas? Thanks

I dunno what your engine builder did to bypass the thermostat, but undo it. Thermostats are a good thing.

Thermostats and radiator caps keep the system under pressure which prevents the coolant/water from boiling and makes the system cool better, you need a thermostat.

210* does not seem that uncommon...does the temp continue to climb? Or does it stop there...I agree with everyone else...Mods are good some places, others, stick to the time tested systems.

Yeah, I said 1. Install a freakin thermo, the car is driven on the street not the track. 2. There is no fan shroud.

I think we've figured out the problems here guys. But seriously, we do need to keep this motor cool cause it has like 11:1 or so compression and iron heads and burns pump gas.

I think the shroud will solve your cooling problem,,,,the fan needs to set fully into the shroud..I,m running mechanical and my temp has never seen above 200*. Even in traffic at 95* Iowa style....wich euqals about 110* anywhere else...

I agree I would get a fan shroud, this should fix your cooling problem, the next thing I would do is un-bypass the thermostat, it's there for a reason.

I think i need a fan shroud. I need to either "make" one or find one that will fit my radiator. I was told not to let the temp go above 210 because of 11.5:1 compression.

Yep, I didn't run a fan shroud last summer with a 160* stat, in traffic in 100* weather it would get up to 230* not good. So I got a GM fan shroud top and bottom for $90, and in the same weather traffic, with a 180* doesn't go above 210*.

check the local junkyards..I got mine..upper and lower with the radiator for $35.00. We have a yard here that crushes cars real quick. They let you have as much as you can carry out for $35.
Should have seen me carry out my old 700r4...... Its funny just to watch the guys tear door panels and such off the cars, load them up with as much, usually more than they can handle. Its funny...walk 10ft pick up what ya drop...10 more ft...you get the picture, looks like the ending of a dramatic marathon...LMAO.....

Yeah, i dont know, cause my radiator is one my engine builder has. A universal one so I dont know if I can fit a cover of it.

Man I hear that... Our town is a little under an hour and a half from you're state. I've heard it in a chain letter "If you have ever used the heat and the air conditioning in your car in the same day before..." I'll assume this applies not just to Illinois.
