Running to hot? or just right :)

since the weather has been getting warmer i have noticed the car seems to be running a little bit hotter? i normally just drive around town which makes sense since there isn't a lot of air flow through the rad but just wanted to make sure this is normal to prevent any thing serious! it normally runs around this point (in the picture) sometimes a little above or a little..... the one thing that concerns me is that the car now has a 355 in it instead of the stock 305 so I'm not 100% sure if the water temp reading is accurate any insight would be greatly appreciated because I'm going to fort erie next week and don't want any overheating!

Thanks Kyxx

Re: Running to hot? or just right :)

that is right where mine runs at idle, low speeds,or mild
highway driving-if i push mine kinda hard on the
highway on hot days,it can get up to around 220-no
concern,still within "safe"rangeI have a mildly modded
CFI 350,'82 TA aluminum core radiator,clutch fan,195
thermostat.
An oil cooler setup was added, but has little effect on
"normal"temps though it helps a lot when things start
to heat up running fast on really hot days.

i have a mild built 355 with a pulley fan and mine has never gotten close to 105 even on a 32'C/90'F day we had earlier this year.... maybe try a rad flush?

yes i will try, i ordered new upper and lower rad hoses, because mine are pretty squishy, i had also a low temp thermostat put in last year, thats when i started to notice it getting up that high. i can actually feel the heat pouring through the firewall

Re: Running to hot? or just right :)

from what i hear on here,220*f is real typical temp for
later model thirds to run at-especially at low speeds.
Looks like all is good with your car

Re: Running to hot? or just right :)

yay! going to replace my rad hoses anyways but thats good to know... any reason i should physically get really hot in the cab. i think im missing some stuff under the shifter like some type of heat deflector sometimes if ive been driving dor awhile i cant touch the bottom of the shifter near the boot its so hot

Re: Running to hot? or just right :)

i don't get any really noticable engine heat intrusion
with my '82,but my exhaust is not stock and i have
belt driven fan,so better underhood ventilation than
electric fan versions that could have buildup of hot air
at rear of engine compartment. You could be missing
some undercarpet insulation or the lower shift boot;
i don't know know much about T-5 instalation,but i
kinda remember they have a lower boot-lots of dust
getting in too if that is missing

Re: Running to hot? or just right :)

yes i definately believe the lower boot is missing, and with the stock exhaust i didnt notice that much heat but ever since i had switched to my hooker headers and exhaust system i seem to notice quite a bit more
