Advise on interior coolant leak

Hi all,

Greetings from the UK - great forum, long time reader and first time poster! I have a 1991 Pontiac Firebird with a 5ltr TBI engine. 2 weeks ago I noticed some fluid (bluish/green) in the passenger footwell. After a bit of googling I came to the conclusion it was the heater core, so checked the hoses going to the firewall and then started stripping the dash. When doing so I found some traces of coolant (well at least I think it is) on some of the plastic (the main plastic above your feet).

However when I removed the core cover it was bone dry! The below pic is what I revealed, the core looks surprisingly good! So I figured let me idle the car for a bit and see if I can view the leak, nothing.

Any ideas? Where should I be looking for the leak? Should I drive the car round a bit to see the leak?

Many thanks for any advice.
Anil

It has to be the core, it's the only thing that brings coolant through the firewall.

Re: Advise on interior coolant leak

Is there a particular place it would leak from?

Re: Advise on interior coolant leak

check your hoses that connect to your heater coreon the firewall one lossened up the other day and was spraying at the perfect angle to spray into the firewall and on the ground outside tightened up the hose and i was good i first thought it was the core as i replaced it 2 yrs ago then the car heated up and stopped leaking so i thought of the hoses first

Hey Tom 86 - If this is the case, when I take the car out, rather than just idling I should see some evidence of the leak. What do you think?

Will give that a go over the weekend.

Cheers,
Anil

Re: Advise on interior coolant leak

you might get lucky it might just be coming into the car or both (inside and ground outside) i just tightened the hose alittle and it solved it you could also pressure test the system and see for sure where it's coming from good luck
