auto meter water temp

i started installing my auto meter phantom gauges today, and the water temp will either not read nothing or its pegging out. i tried running a jumper wire straight from the sender to the gauge and grnd to the battery and it just pegs out to 250+. i cant figure this out. any ideas? thanks

If they included a sender use an ohmmeter to determine if the sender changes resistance when you warm the sender.

Your gage pegging hot is consistent with a shorted sender.

Re: auto meter water temp

did you use the factory water temp sender? if so that's probably why, they have a specific one.
