Blend Door Issue

So the piece that attaches the blend door to the controls in the center console has broken off. Now when you slide the heat/cool control back and forth the cable moves, but the cable is no longer attached to the blend door. The current option has been a set of pliers, but you can't adjust it while you’re driving.

Now the million dollar question is how can you fix this issue?
