carb heater core question
carb heater core question
I have a question in regards to a carburetor engine and the heater core. I currently have my intake running to the 3/4" outlet side of the heater core and the 5/8" inlet side of the heater core running to the water pump. My question is does it matter which one goes to which side of the heater core? IE: inlet and outlet sides.

The heater core has 2 fittingsl one is 5/8", one is ¾".
The cold fitting, which would be either the rad or the WP one, should be ¾"
The hot fitting, which you don't have hooked up and therefore your heater won't make any heat, should be 5/8". That one is located in the intake.
That said, the heater core doesn't particularly care which direction the water moves through it; the sizes are just the way they happen to be set up when new.
Put a pipe plug in the WP and move that fitting to the intake, if you actually want heat.

I'm running into a simpler issue, I have one hose going to my radiator and the other hose going to my water pump,,where would I be at to hook the water pump line up to the intake?

The one you curretly have going to the radiator shold be going to the front of the intake manifold. You should only have two lines going to the radiator. One from the thermostat housing which goes to the upper point and the one from the bottom of the water pump (the large port on the water pump).

The nipple itself, goes on the front of the intake just to the left (Passenger side) of the thermostat housing. You shoujld see a 3/4" hole that's probably been plugged.
the nipple for the heater hose you can get at any Autozone or Oreillies/checkers. If the guy at the counter is worth anything he'll be able to point you right to it.

The nipple on the radiator, and the one on the water pump, are both on the "cold" side of the system. No heat will be produced if the core is hooked up between those 2.
YOu need to hook the lines from the core to the 5/8" fitting in the intake, and the ¾" fitting in EITHER the rad or the WP. Since it's easier to reliably plug the WP without risking a leak or a failure, if the rad has the fitting, plug the pump and use the rad.
