Are these normal temps...??

So I took a couple pics of the temperature I was getting when i pointed my gun at the thermostat housing and at the neck of the water pump.....I got a 180 thermostat in the car right now......I just think that my car isn't getting to the adequate temperature.......Im thinking of installing a 195 thermostat tomorrow....

Re: Are these normal temps...??

180 or 195 is ok-i run 195 in my z28,ran 180 in my '69 camaro but it still would run around 195 at highway speed.Where does your temp gauge run at just putzing around town? Normally the reading at the water pump will be lower than thermostat housing since the pump is pulling "cooled"water from the radiator, but the fitting near where you have the IR thermometer aimed is the return from the heater core-if heater off, that coolant will be close to the temp of the coolant in the block.
