New guidance on oil cooler hose type
New guidance on oil cooler hose type
EDIT TO TITLE: "NEED" Guidance
Hi everyone - 88 GTA 350 TPI. I'm doing my damdest to try and minimize the leaks underneath. The oil cooler is my next to do. In the pic you'll see what my lines currently look like running to the cooler. it's a metal line that has about 4" of rubber hose connecting it to the oil cooler. I would like to replace these 4" rubber hoses with new ones and had two questions:
1) What type of hose should I get? And what diameter / size? (I'm 99% positive the lines just hold coolant.)
2) Do I have to drain the entire coolant system before replacing them? Or can I keep it full and just expect a minimal amount to come out when I disconnect them?
Thanks!

Re: New guidance on oil cooler hose type
It is regular 5/8" heater hose. It's the lowest point in the system, so it will make a mess when you remove the hoses. You can minimalize the coolant loss if you clamp off the 2 rubber hoses at the other end of those pipes.
