My mom's '92 Camero A/C is not cooling. I went to attach my manifold--low side to the accumulator with standard R12 fitting, however, the high side is giving me fits. 3/16" fits the treads, but the valve appears to be 1/4 - 1/2 inch farther down inside the body. To try and clarify, the standard 3/16" adapter has the rigid bar (that depresses the schrader valve) that is about even with the rubber seal and above the threads of the fitting. The adapter I apparently need would have a rigid bar extending at least a 1/4" below the seal, perhaps even with the bottom of the threaded portion of the fitting. I did stick a thicker wire down into the port and a gentle push does cause the valve to vent, but I have never seen a manifold adapter that would function this valve. Does anyone know how to get the needed adapter.
