I have a 92 RS TBI with this black box. I'm in the process of trying to install a new Sanden compressor and with my current backpad I will be able to attach my discharge and suction lines. Is this a coolant diverter? If not, what is it and what does it do?

Air injection divertor valve. Directs air to either exhaust manifolds, cat, or dumps it out under the car.

 

I need to move it back about an inch...Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? I won't suggest removing the sucker b/c of already seen the carnage on other threads.
