Seems to be running hot

I have a built 350 in my 89 and when i drove it today (80* day) it seemed like it was running hot. on the side streets n such it was around 230 and on the highway it was around 220. now i was told its fairly normal as long as its not around 240+, but im new to the camaro scene and i was curious what anyone else runs at. it has a 6 inch cowl hood on, but i kno the front end on these doesnt let a ton of air in. it definitely runs cooler with the hood off.

Re: Seems to be running hot

is this off of the stock dash gauge? if so they tend to not be accurate at all. mine reads 45 degrees higher then it really is.

It's an aftermarket dash panel and gauges. If u look at my pics u can see it. That's another thing I was thinking tho. But when I run it with the hood off it stays right at 180-190. So Idk if it's right or not.

Checker or autozone usually have IR thermometers they will let you use. Easy to check if your guage is accurate.

If it is indeed reading accurate, sounds like you need to increase the efficiency of your cooling system. Make sure you check all of your components to see if they are functioning properly first.

Many posters here feel a 190 degree thermostat is optimum. You might try changing your thermostat. (I assume you have an air dam under your front bumper and that it isn't damaged.)
