Plz Help Temp Gauge

I have a 92 RS now I'm the second owner of it. The speedo and odometer stopped working shortly after I got it.. The temp gauge worked fine.. I took the cluster out an noticed it needs new chips.. Now I put the cluster back in till I can get new chips... Now my temp gauge is going crazy an it didn't seem like anything was wrong with it when I inspected the motherboard an chips.. Now I will run the car an the temp gauge will go up quickly an the car isn't even hot an my fan kicks on it will go into the red zone be pinned there then slowly go at the 220 mark at times. But at times it gets to the red the car it's self isn't hot at all. The block isn't even warmed up. Yet the fan is on? I drove it an the check engine light would come on n then go off.. Idk if it's sending the wrong info because the gauge is acting up? The car only has maybe 86k on it. Please help ideas I am lost

Chipping Away

Sounds like you caused a bad connection when you were servicing the other items.

You can go over all connections from the gage outward.

Also, with the engine OFF, but the key in the RUN position, ground the sender wire, then look at the temp gage.

What does the gage do when that wire is grounded?

The temperature sender is located in the top left front of the engine.
