radiator fitting problems.

so had this car around about 6 months now, and my funds/time have allowed me to get around to working on it. working on getting it up to spec for road worthy here in australia, and one of the issues i want to address is my radiator.

my problem is that i have a feeling someone has just shoved a radiator that was a close fit, some fans on the back and threw those straps over the top.
i can't seem to find the usual piece that goes over the top and i need ideas to deal with these metal straps, cause i know for a fact that it won't pass with those there.

also got a similar thing happening on the firewall to hold back the harness. it's about as half asses as the staples that someone's put in the roof to hold the roof liner up.

Re: radiator fitting problems.

Can't say about "pass" in Oz. Don't know what they look for there.

Looks like the entire car is a giant hack job, by someone that was easily distracted by shiny things.

Looks to me like you have 2 choices, both of which involve buying another car.

1. Sell that POS and buy a car that hasn't been hacked to oblivion by an idiot.
2. Buy another car that's been, say, rear-ended; worthless, but the parts you need, are unaffected. Take what you need off of it and throw the rest away.

IMO option #1 is probably the superior path.

Re: radiator fitting problems.

buying another car was considered, but they're not exactly readily available here, and are on the pricey side of things. a good condition one here is like 7 grand.

there was some good points on the car, like the motor is nice and strong. the interior is pretty good too. it's just mainly tidying stuff up like leads, wires stuff that's just been half assed.

Re: radiator fitting problems.

I strapped in my larger performance radiator like that, but cleaner look.

If you can not find the top plastic part, you can get a piece of sheet metal and bend it using a sheet metal brake, or a true edge on a work bench, steel engine hoist leg, etc and make you up a nice metal top plate

Re: radiator fitting problems.

Look here in the classifieds, you should be able to find a radiator, fans and shroud fairly easily and have shipped to you. This would allieviate most of your issues with the radiator.

For the harness, routing it is difficult and just needs to be done carefully.

The roof liner shoudl be able to be fixed by any competant upholstry shop.
