Need some Fan Information
Need some Fan Information
A little background for my car because I believe the more details the better....
I have a 1991 305 TBI Camaro. Saturday night my lower radiator hose got a hole popped in it and caused the coolant to leak out, get to hot.
Anyways I flushed the radiator, replaced the hose but when my car is sitting still it still gets to hot and my fan doesn't cut on. It works with A/C but doesn't cut on like it should. I drove it around for awhile and it stayed cool, so it seems to be just when it sits.
I know the relay is on the driver side firewall and the switch is on passenger side head but I'm a pretty new it comes to wiring so I need a little help (detailed) on what to do and how to do it. I'll give ya any information I can. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Since the fan comes on with the AC, the overall circuit is good meaning the fusable link and all the wiring is good on that end. However The switch in the passenger head, make sure the wire going to it is connected and intact.
if it is or isn't (Wire cut/melted or disconnected), then you need to pull the wire, ground the connector/cut wire to chassis ground with the key in the "Run" ..do not start the engine. If the wire and relay are good, the fan will turn on.
If the fan does turn on, and wire is cut/melted, repair and run the car up to temp and do it again to test the switch.
If the fan does not turn on. then since it worked while grounded, you know 95% the relay is bad. replace the relay and try again.
If the fan turns on, that was your problem. If it doesn't turn on when up to temp, then also replace the switch in the passenger head. That should be it.
Look for one that turns on around 205 and off at 195 if you plan on keeping the stock thermostat.
That should take care of just about all scenarios I can think of that cause fan issues when you know they work with the AC on.
Hope this helps!
