Temp Sensors

I am doing a engine swap on my 1986 T/A. I'm going from 305 to 355 non EGR, I have ran across 3 temp sensors. One on the Head (for gauge I think) one on the thermocouple housing and one on the water pump for inline with heater hose. Any ideas which does what, not real sure about thermostat and water pump, Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The vin lists it as a H car

Re: Temp Sensors

There's no [mr_spock] sen-sore [/mr_spock] on the water pump. (at least, not from the factory...)

No thermocouple anywhere on these cars either, to my knowledge. (at least, not intentionally...)

There is ONE coolant temp sensor. It's on the water outlet, front of the intake, where the upper rad hose connects. It supplies the ECM with its indication of coolant temp.

There's a sending unit for the temp gauge in the driver's side head, between #1 & #3 spark plugs. Works the gauge in the dash.

In some cars there's a fan switch in the pass side head; same hole as the driver's side one. Turns the rad fan on when the coolant temp exceeds approx. 235°F.

No "ideas" though. Just ... what IS.

Re: Temp Sensors

Not sur ewhat you're asking about the fan.

The tach wire is tan. Isn't affected by anything to do with EGR. It will work the same regardless.

That's the stock function of a Carb V8 with electric fan,... not an "add on".

There is no Tach wire leading to the ECM. The only Tach wire there is comes from the distributor cap ( marked TACH ) and it goes directly to the cluster.

Re: Temp Sensors

Hope everybody had a great Christmas, after reading my post about fan i didnt make alot of sense lol. Found out the temp sensor coming out of water pump going to heater core runs the blower under the batt. compartment for a fuel cooler blower. Have not had a chance to look for tan tach wire yet, but tomorrow is a new day. The fan problem i have is All new sensors / switches, Temp works on the cluster. If i turn A/C on the coolant fan works, but with A/C off Coolant fan stays off???? maybe wrong temp from parts store, Ill keep looking, thanks for any ideas

Re: Temp Sensors

Hi guy, I have a 91 GTA with 2 cooling fans. neither seems to working. If I jump out the relay, the drivers side fan comes on. My question is, where does the fan/fans get a signal to come on from
