need a new radiator fan
need a new radiator fan
so ive had my 84 for a while and never really had issue with overheating until now, it seems my fan doesn't really help keep my motor cool so i am going to replace it with a new one, i was just hoping for some suggestions as to what kind and how big. pic for reference to my radiator, and you will see probably why it doesn't keep it cool >_> with how small it is compared to the radiator

If your radiator core width is more than 26", you can use the fans out of an early 2000s Malibu easily. If it's less than 26", you can still use it, but it is a much bigger pain in the ***... (see the link above)
My customer has been using that fan setup for a daily driver, and it has been working wonderfully.

That improvised shroud is going to block airflow through the radiator when the fan isn't running. Either strap the fan down with the zip tie style anchors like it's designed, or fab up some mounting brackets. Right now you've effectively blocked 1/3rd of your radiator.
The radiator fan in a thirdgen is only there to keep the engine from overheating at low speeds or to supplement the air conditioner. The rest of the time, the airflow from the air dam under the car is forced up through the radiator as long as the car is moving. From the factory these cars came with an almost excessive set of air directing baffles under the front end, to force the airflow up and through the radiator. They tend to get discarded during repairs as "extra" parts. Make sure you've got an air dam, and that air can get through and the cooling system will probably work much better.

If you have a single fan than I suggest staying with a single fan for simplicities sake.
The question I have for you is your “fan switch”.
Is it the “stock” switch that comes on at around 222* or have you replaced it with one that comes on earlier than the stock . Lets say around 200* or even earlier than that.
If you still have the stock switch than I suggest changing it to one that comes on at around 190* and change the thermostat to a 180*.
That, with your fan now should make a huge difference.
The switch and thermostat change is absolutely necessary to get your car in the 190* to 200* range.
That’s what I have in mine and I love it..
