Electric fans, are they worth it?

So I have been kicking around the idea of running electric fans on my 84 Z28 LG4 and was wondering if its worth it? I know it will free up some HP and get you some MPG on the highway. Just wondering what kits people use and how easy it is to install an aftermarket kit and if I should go with a larger amp alternator. Any input will be appreciated!

Hard to say about "worth it". The usual standard is, if it costs less than $10/HP.

"They" say a clutch fan consumes as much as 12 - 15 HP at high RPM. So by the above standard if you could do it for less than $150 or so, it's good. But there's other considerations besides just HP, like gas mileage.

Personally I'd do it. You could just get the stuff off of a L69 car.

I was looking at the factory L69 set up but they are getting harder to find, and was more leaning to an aftermarket set up with a matching wiring harness and sensor to kick on and off. and also should I go with a larger alternator because I know electric fans can take quite a few amps to run.

I HAVE A SINGLE FACTORY FAN W/UPPER AND LOWER MOUNTS OF MY 2000 RS.I AM DOING A LS SWAP SO I WONT BE USING THEM.IF YOU WANT THEM HOW DOES $25.00 PLUS THE SHIPPING COST SOUND TO YOU ?
AS FOR THE RELAY I WOULD GO TO YOUR LOCAL PARTS STORE OR ORDER YOU ONE ONLINE,ALOT OF THEM ARE ADJUSTABLE SO YOU CAN MANAGE THE, OR YOU CAN JUST BUY ONE THAT WILL TURN ON AT A CERTIAN TEMP.

factory style set up with relay and temp switch is an economical option. you can gank a fan relay off pretty much any later model car at the yards (the LG4/L69 relay's connector doesn't hold up well but a later one is good). a new motor along with a factory single fan set up is near perfect.

Pick up a set of 4th Gen fans. With very little cutting of the shroud, they're essentially plug and play.
