3.1 L camaro exhaust fan malfunction

hey guys, i have a 91 RS 3.1 liter Camaro and i am having trouble getting the cooling fan to work. right now i have a wire running up to the positive terminal whenever i need to get anywhere. (yes i know how ghetto that sounds} wired the old fan up to the battery and it didn't work. bought a new one, tested it and made sure itt spins and threw it in with a new radiator. car still didn't want to turn the fan on when it needs to. looking at the Chiltons book there's a engine temp switch and then there's a sensor. I assume the sensor is for the gauges also, i bought a new engine coolant fan Relay and double checked fuses. there's also a manual override switch that i guess i could wire to the interior but i want to avoid that and keep it working the way it was stock. Is there anything else i should check before buying a new sensor ? what components would i be over looking?

With the key in the RUN position, but the engine not running, ground the fan switch on the engine.

Did that cause the fan to run?

If yes, the fan switch is defective.

If no, use a fused jumper
(1 amp is fine) jump that orange wire at the relay to the brown wire pin 5.

Did the relay ••CLICK••?

If yes, check for power at the
black wire with the red stripe when the fused jumper is still connected.

Was there power there?

If yes, you have a break in the line from that point to the fan connector.

Also don’t forget to make sure the ground pin in that connector still makes it to ground.

Happy Racing !
