Coolant guage issue

I have a 86 IROC with 305 tpi. Last time I drove everything was fine. Went to start it today and the temp guage pegs at hot hod cooling fans come on. The car won't start ( no spark and fuel pump not priming. Also blows the fuse for the guages. Anybody have an idea of what might be going on? Hate to just start throwing parts at it!

Use a voltmeter to probe the primary of the coil when the key is in the RUN position.

Is there power?

If no, there is a bad or burned out connection between it and the ignition switch, or no power to the switch.
